A veritable small army of volunteers was mobilized for the effective delivery of 1,600 food baskets for the Laval Volunteer Bureau’s 2006 Christmas Campaign. Over 150 of these volunteers spent an entire day at the centre or on the road ensuring that disadvantaged families in Laval would have their food needs met at holiday time.

The Laval Volunteer Centre’s 2006 Christmas campaign delivered 1,600 holiday baskets this year, warming the hearts of about 4,600 people, (2,068 of them children).
More than 150 volunteers at the Centre’s food bank worked throughout the day designated for delivery of the holiday gifts to ensure that everything would run smoothly. At regular intervals, volunteer drivers were handed street maps and directions and their vehicles loaded with the non-perishable food and gifts to be delivered.
Each basket contained a full order of groceries and children in these families were not forgotten as volunteers dressed as Santa’s elves brought brand new presents to their doors.
The great success of the Laval Volunteer Centre’s 22nd Christmas baskets campaign was due to the generosity of numerous individuals and a large number of corporations, with hundreds of donors contributing to the overall effort.
“I have to thank the more than 1000 people of Laval who were very generous toward the community’s disadvantaged families, said Real Plourde, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Laval Volunteer Centre.
In addition to collecting in grocery stores, at gift-wrapping spots and at the Santa Claus Parade, food also came in to the Centre from businesses, schools, associations and social and community clubs.
“Food was collected until December 21, four days after the baskets for 2006 were delivered. The continued amassing of non-perishables for the food bank was undertaken to ensure a sufficient supply for emergency purposes, explained Kathleen Gagnon, the Laval Volunteer Bureau’s director-general.
