A moving adieu, in full uniform
More than 3000 police officers from Quebec, Canada and the United States escorted the hearse of Daniel Tessier to St-Vincent-de-Paul Church. On Friday March 9, 2007 Laval said its eternal good-bye to the police officer slain in the line of duty at dawn the Friday before.
At the head of the procession could be seen a giant picture of the smiling constable, an image that has been in wide circulation for the past week. A police choir sang Gerry Boulet's "Pour la dernière fois" (For the last time). Abbé Claude Ritchie, chaplain of the Laval Police, delivered the homily. "The Church is illuminated with the 42 lights, one for each of the 42 years of a full life lived by Daniel."

Listening attentively is Stéphane Forbes, Daniel Tessier's partner, wounded in the arm in the same drug raid that cost Tessier his life.
A message from a daughter
Everyone will always remember the presence of the 13 year-old-girl on the verge of womanhood, Véronique, eldest daughter of Dominique Lapointe and Daniel Tessier, who spoke with poise far beyond her years, shortly after her younger sister Marie-Andrée had lit the ceremonial candle with an ease of her own.
"You're listening to us as you still try to understand what happened that morning. We're going to miss your little jokes, your smiles. Had I known, I never would have let you leave the house that morning."
From the Chaplain
Raymond Gravel, former Chaplain of the Laval Police Force, recalled that twelve hours before his death, Daniel Tessier had comforted him at the funeral service of another Laval Police Officer who had died the week before. Father Gravel also lauded the courage of Mrs. Lapointe, who confided in him: "Daniel is no longer in his body. He is with me, in my mind, my heart, and my soul."
"I owe you one. One day, you bought me a ticket. I can pay you back for eternity," concluded Father Gravel, who is now a federal MP. The former Chaplain preceded his message to Daniel Tessier with a condemnation of "the media storm and sensational journalism" that has surrounded the officer's tragic death.
Condolences
Throughout the ceremony, several members of Police forces, and political leaders at the municipal, provincial and federal, level took to the microphone to add their own words of sympathy and condolence to the slain officer's family and friends. The hearse took its leave with Daniel Tessier to the mournful and reassuring sounds of the bagpipes.
